If bum marketing can sell stuff online with one page sites, articles and classifieds like USFreeads, whats a page rank for?

That's a bit like saying...

"If you can earn money busking, why does anyone bother forming a band?"

OR

"If you can earn money with a stall at a Saturday market, why does anyone bother building a department store (or a chain of stores)?"

People build websites and get good page rank so they can attract thousands of visitors a month - or thousands of visitors a day in some cases.

A large, professional looking website helps build your reputation, adds to your credibility and therefore increases your sales.

I don't know that I would focus on page rank building. More important search engine results page position building

It is your sites position in the SERPs that actually gets you the traffic

BUM marketing is used specially to target those
low competitive niche or keyword.

Low competition sometimes also means that the searches
for the keyword term are not high. Therefore many
marketer just ignore those term because the searches
are low.

This is where BUM marketing comes in. You can rank
very high for a low competition keyword, but the
numbers of searches for it is not high as well.

If you want huge traffic, BUM marketing is not that
effective because it is hard to rank high for a
highly competitive keyword term.

However if you combine about 10 or more low-hanging yet Highly Targeted and Related Keywords through an array of different marketing methods - then you just might be on to something! In some cases this low competition technique has BLASTED the water out of a Major OVERsaturated keyword.

I like Bum Marketing, and use it a lot. There are methods that you can use to rank for highly competitive keywords.

You can create mini-websites based on these keywords, and spin them with social bookmarks and write articles based on them.

The possibilities are endless.
